ISABELLE BONZOM
ALICE IN COSTA RICA
Isabelle Bonzom created murals in the interior patio of a private house in San José, Costa Rica. Her patron, a collector of the artist's paintings, loved “Alice in Wonderland”, and for Isabelle Bonzom, Lewis Carroll's work deals with issues similar to those addressed in mural art such as changes of scale and playing with the environment.
In agreement with her patron, Isabelle Bonzom used distemper to paint characters from the Alice novel by Lewis Carroll in 1865, illustrated by John Tenniel in 1866 on the whitewashed walls of the patio.
The Dodo, the Rabbit, Alice, Humpty Dumpty, the Queen of Hearts and the Playing Cards thus become part of everyday life in a dialogue between imagination and reality.
