FRESCO WORKSHOPS
UNDER THE DIRECTION OF ARTIST ISABELLE BONZOM

IN FLAINE, HAUTE-SAVOIE, SUMMER 2017
Mont Blanc

Flaine is located in the Haute-Savoie region, between Geneva and Chamonix Mont-Blanc, nestled in a natural cirque at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Flaine, is a resort designed by Bauhaus master Marcel Breuer, where works by Picasso, Dubuffet, Vasarely, Bury and Hantaï are presented.

July 15-29, Flaine will host Opus-74, a festival of music, art and theater that will feature masterclasses and workshops.
As part of this festival, two workshops in buon fresco on wall will be
led by artist Isabelle Bonzom, a muralist and fresco painter.



A workshop session will take place from July 22 through July 29.

This 35-hour workshop is an introductory course to buon fresco on walls.

550 euros for one week, 35-hour training

Teaching will be provided in English for non French-speaking participants.

Born in Antiquity, buon fresco (painting on a wet coat of lime and sand) flourished during the Romanesque period. Masterpieces were created throughout the centuries. Fresco is undergoing a revival, thanks to the appreciation of natural materials and respect of the architecture which are hallmarks of fresco.


Program

Sunday evening, presentation of the workshop and the site.

From Sunday to Thursday, 5 days of workshop, from 10 am to 6 pm.

History, theory and pratice of the buon fresco
Preparation of the model for an individual project
Preparation and application on the wall of the lime coats (arriccio and intonaco)
Buon fresco painting of the personal project in two or three "giornate" or "days" (fragments of painted lime coat)
Workshop wrapup

On Friday at 5pm, inauguration and opening reception around the frescoes created by participants

Workshop led by artist, fresco painter and art historian Isabelle Bonzom. A Fine Arts school post-doctorate, she is the author of the reference book « La fresque, art et technique » ( Eyrolles publishing house, 2010).

From 1993 to 2003, Isabelle Bonzom has taught buon fresco and mural art at the International Center of Mural Art at Saint-Savin, France. She currently leads fresco workshops for students and professionals at the Duperré Fine Art School, in Paris.

Over the years, Isabelle has trained mural art practitioners from France and many countries of Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia.
